The death of an eminent personality on November 9 has practically gone unnoticed in the media and society. Mr. Abu Shamim Arif of the elite civil service had an illustrious career spanning over 40 years. He had retired a few years ago as federal secretary having served with distinction various ministries in that capacity including Information & Broadcasting, Industries & Production, IT & Telecommunication and Statistics divisions. He remained Chairman of the Pakistan Steel Mills Corporation, Chairman PTCL, Vice Chairman of Export Promotion Bureau (now TDAP) and Managing Director of Balochistan Development Authority.
