Muneeb Iqbal, the grandson of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, has said that the teachings of the Poet of the East and philosopher are like a beacon for maintenance of tolerance, peace and stability in the society.

Talking to the media during his visit to Iqbal Manzil, the birthplace of Allama Iqbal in Sialkot, Muneeb Iqbal who spent three hours there said that youth of the nation should transform themselves into Iqbal's 'Mard-e-Momin' and strive for self-reliance within own resources, and emphasised austerity envisioned by Allama Iqbal.

He said, "We must meet this great intellectual challenge of our time for confronting militancy. For this, we need to imbibe the teachings of Allama Iqbal. This indeed is the best tribute to Allama Iqbal."

Addressing the participants of a seminar on Iqbaliyat held at the Govt Murray College Sialkot, he stressed that Pakistan can only be redeemed through following in Iqbal's vision on democracy, human excellence and self-reliance. The perpetual rule of dictators weakened the national institutions, especially democracy, he added. He further said that Allama Iqbal was one of the great men of Islam and Pakistan. He dreamt of Pakistan, where brotherhood, social and economic justice would prevail. "We must create a society according to the vision of the great poet, who gave the idea of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Subcontinent where they can practice their Islamic values and culture," he said.

Iqbal's philosophical and human approach to save the Muslims from degradation, deprivation and destitute living is still a source of strength and guidance for us, he maintained.

To a question raised by the Murray College's students and teachers, Muneeb Iqbal narrated that the nation owed freedom and independence to the vision of the great poet and the best way to pay tributes to Iqbal was to understand his message and imbibe his teachings. He stressed a need for understanding Iqbal's concept of Islam and forwarding movement in human thought. He said that it was unfortunate that in the country envisioned by Iqbal, Islam has been ruthlessly exploited by extremists and militants.

Women role: PML-N MNA Ch Armughan Subhani has said that the women have always played a pivotal role in promotion of durable democracy in the country and the present government had made an historical achievement by making the women part of the procedure of national development.

He stated this while addressing a delegation of female party workers here the other day. MPA Ch Tariq Subhani was also present on the occasion.

He said that active participation of the women was vital for national development vis-a-vis economical and political stability, as thge country could not progress without the empowerment of the women.

Ch Subhani said that the PML-N government was making all out efforts to empower the women by raising their living standard, besides, focusing on providing them with quality education. He said that no society could progress without the education of the women.
