LAHORE - Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the PML-N government is pursuing the agenda of selfless public service and is working round the clock to steer the country out of crisis.

He said the government was well aware of the problems facing the people and was doing its best to solve the same and bring prosperity and peace to the life of the masses.

He said the Punjab government of PML-N set records of public service during its previous five-year tenure and was determined to perform even better this time. The government would continue the journey of development and public welfare programmes which it had started in the last tenure, the chief minister said and reiterated to make the Punjab an exemplary province.

The CM said this while talking to Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Barjees Tahir, Federal Minister for Industries and Production Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi and the party legislators who called on him here on Saturday.

On this occasion, the chief minister asked the ministers as well as provincial and national legislators of the party to take an active part in helping the quake-affected Baloch brethren. He said the Punjab government and the people sent relief items of millions of rupees to the affected areas besides collecting Rs 350 million for the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

He said the government was taking effective measures to ensure peace in the country as it was vital to attract foreign investment and promote trade and economic activities.

 He said by virtue of the efforts of the government and utilisation of all energies to meet the relentless challenges, the country was sure to carve out a dignified place in the comity of nations. He said it was heartening that the Punjab government had succeeded in attracting billions of dollars foreign investment by adopting best policies and concrete steps.

Shahbaz Sharif expressed the hope that the Youth Business Loan Programme started by the federal government would yield very positive results. He added the Punjab government was also setting up Punjab Rozgar Bank to provide loans to youth on soft terms. He asserted that promotion of technical education was of great importance for alleviating poverty and unemployment. He maintained training of various types was being imparted to jobless youth under Punjab Skills Development Programme and its scope would be expanded to the entire province.

The chief minister pointed out a comprehensive programme had been evolved to provide essential items to the people at fixed rates in the province. He said that due to timely and effective steps of the government, prices of eatable items had stabilised and provision of daily-use items would be ensured to the people at fixed rates at every cost. He asked the assembly members to utilise all their energies to solve the problems of the people.
