LAHORE – The Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued notices to federal government and ministry of petroleum and natural recourses on a petition challenging recent increase in POL prices and to disqualify petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain.Petitioner pleaded that masses had the constitutional right to know details about the method of determination for revising petroleum products, cost of production and cost of supply including charging of different levies, duties and taxes and further disbursement of collections under different heads.He prayed to order government to supply him audited accounts of all the petroleum minister and Ogra connected with the production and supply of petroleum products specifying the details with complete profit and loss accounts. The petitioner also sought disqualification of Dr Asim Hussain for issuing a before-time statement about increase in the prices. After recording initial argument, chief justice Sheikh Azmat Saaeed sought replies from the respondent by Feb 17.Reply sought from Punjab govt: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought reply from Punjab government on a petition of a school teacher seeking Ph.D special science and technology allowance.Prof Dr Muhammad Abdullah submitted that he was recruited in 1994 as subject specialist teacher in BS-17 and later he got Ph.D degree in Islamic Studies in 2009 from the University of Punjab. He said on the basis of his recent qualification the Higher Education Department Punjab granted him Ph.D allowance Rs1500. He said the HED had in 2009 enhanced the monthly Ph.D science and technology allowance to Rs10, 000 but the department had refused to give him the increased allowance which is clear discrimination with the schools teachers.He requested the court to direct the government to pay Ph.D allowance from 2009.Assistant Advocate General Shujaat Ali Khan told the court the said allowance is for the professors of universities, its principals and faculty members and the school teachers were not entitled for the said allowance.
