KARACHI - The National Centre for Maritime Policy Research (NCMPR), a constituent unit of Bahria University, organised a walk on beach and cleaning activity on Friday at Clifton to mark the World Oceans Day.

Every year the day is observed on June 8 by the United Nations. The concept of 'World Oceans Day' was first proposed in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro as a way to celebrate our world’s shared oceans and our personal connection to the sea. The role of oceans is critical in maintaining the cycle of life on earth. It is estimated that 50 per cent of the oxygen we breathe, is contributed by oceans. The activities of the Day conducted by NCMPR highlighted the importance of the oceans and the vital role they play in our lives.

Public messages on our environmental responsibilities were portrayed through posters about the protection of oceans. The thought provoking artwork displayed at the venue especially attracted the participants at the event.
