Dr Asim, Yousaf Ansari, Basharat Mirza, Naveed Mukhtar and other accused appeared in the court. Counsel for the defendant maintained the reference was bogus and Dr Asim should not be indicted. A National Accountability Bureau prosecutor said the defence should approach the Sindh High Court if they were not satisfied with the proceedings.

However, the court held the prosecution, during the trial, could not discuss the documents that were not filed.

Counsel for the accused, Azhar Siddique, requested the court to take into consideration the verdict of Islamabad High Court. The case was based on lies and dishonesty, he said.
