GUJRANWALA/RAHIM YAR KHAN: A proclaimed offender involved in the murder of MPA and a bandit were killed allegedly two separate shootouts with police in different areas on Saturday.

In Gujranwala, Tariq Patwari involved in the murder of PML-N MPA Rana Shamshad, his son Shahbaz and a friend, was shot dead in crossfire in the remit of Khiali Police. The police said that on a tip-off about a robbery incident, a police team rushed to the spot where they had to face intense firing from the dacoits.

The police personnel retaliated, killing one of the dacoits while his accomplices fled the scene. The dacoit was later identified as Tariq Patwari who had killed the MPA, his son and a friend in May 2015. The Kamke Police had registered a case of the incident.

The police said that Patwari was evading arrest after the killings.

In Rahim Yar Khan, a robber, said to be affiliated with a notorious gang, was killed allegedly in a shootout with police here on Saturday.  The police said that acting on a tip-off regarding presence of outlaws, conducted search operation near Fazal Wah area of Rahim Yar Khan. As the outlaws caught sight of the lawmen, they started indiscriminate firing, which the police retaliated, leading to a shootout.

In the crossfire, a robber was killed while his accomplices managed to escape from the scene. The dead robber, said to be affiliated with Chottu Gang, was identified as Imran Andhar.

The body was shifted to mortuary of a local hospital for medico-legal formalities.  The police have launched investigation.–Staff Reporter
