QUETTA - Unidentified attackers set two NATO containers on fire near Mongechar area of Kalat district, some 145 kilometres southeast of Quetta, on Sunday. Sources said that two containers were heading for Kandahar from Karachi carrying supplies for NATO forces stationed in Afghanistan, when armed men riding a motorbike intercepted them (containers), forces the drivers and cleaners out at gunpoint on RCD highway. They sprinkled petrol on the containers, set them on fire and fled from the scene. Levies Force personnel reached the area after being informed about the incident. However, the drivers and cleaners remained unhurt in the attack. A case has been registered against unknown assailants and investigations are underway. AFP adds: In another incident, gunmen in Talagang near Islamabad torched two oil tankers transporting fuel for NATO operations in Afghanistan, local police officer Saleem Akhtar told AFP by telephone. Unknown gunmen torched two oil tankers in a pre-dawn attack and escaped, Akhtar said, adding an investigation had been launched. There was no claim of responsibility but the Taliban have mounted similar attacks to avenge US drone strikes on militants in northwest and to protest against the US-led operations in Afghanistan.
