LAHORE - Jamaat-i-Islami Ameer Syed Munawwar Hasan Sunday called upon the United Nations and the world community to pressurise India to settle the Kashmir dispute according to the aspirations of Kashmiris and in accordance with the UN resolutions. In a statement, he said failure to give the Kashmiris their due rights could lead to a nuclear war between Pakistan and India, which could engulf the world peace. He said relations between the two countries could not be normalised unless the dispute was resolved. The JI leader said India had broken all records while committing atrocities on the Kashmiri people, but it was regrettable that the world powers had shut their eyes to the human rights violations. He said Kashmiris would never like to be enslaved, no matter how much military might was used against them. Munawwar said the so-called the US war on terror was only against the Muslims. First, he said, the US invaded Iraq on the false accusation that the Arab country possessed weapons of mass destruction. He said Iraq was destroyed and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi people were massacred. Before that, he said, the US had attacked Afghanistan. Now, he said, the war had spread to Pakistan and ironically the myopic Pakistani rulers were extending all out support to the US. He made it clear that peace in the region would not be possible unless the US pulled out of Afghanistan and resolved the Kashmir dispute. A separate resolution passed by the JIs provincial shoora urged the government to dissociate itself with the so-called war on terror and focus attention on setting right the economy. The resolution said the $10 billion agreement signed by US with India was the result of Pakistans weak foreign policy. It said Pakistans economy had suffered a loss of $40 billion in the war on terror, but the US had paid it only 'peanuts in compensation.
