LAHORE-Punjab Minister for Finance and Planning & Development, Tanvir Ashraf Kaira will chair a meeting of austerity committee on Monday (today) to review austerity measures being taken by the provincial government to save money out of its operational budget. Secretary finance and other concerned officers will attend the meeting, the first during current financial year. The government plans to save up to Rs 10 billion during the fiscal 2010-11 out of its total operational budget of Rs 30 billion. Governments financial managers claim to have saved Rs 2.9 billion so far since start of the current fiscal. It is to be noted that all supplementary grants of provincial departments would now be approved by the austerity committee headed by finance minister. This body has the powers to reject any grant sought by any department.
