LAHORE WAPDA edged out PAF in the Pakistan Premier Football League at Railway Stadium here with 1-0 second leg win on Sunday. It was another giant step forward for the Wapda team in their bid for the national title for the eighth time. The first leg last Tuesday saw WAPDA winning 2-0 at Peshawar. It was 19th tie for both the teams with leaders WAPDA on 50 and PAF 28. The second leg between Young Blood, Sahiwal and Navy also ended in 0-0 draw at Rai Ali Nawaz Stadium, Sahiwal. The first leg ended in 1-1 draw on last month. Navy mustered 28 points in 19 outings as compared to Bloods ten in same number of visits to pitch. Sheikhupura-born Ghulam Abbas separated the WAPDA and PAF teams with 6th minute goal. Qamar Zaman saw his attempt ricocheting into the melee and Abbas took aerial ball into control and headed past keeper Khalid Khan. It was first goal for Abbas in the event for WAPDA. Other goal-getters for WAPDA are Arif Mehmood 20, Khuda Bakhsh 8, Imran Niazi 5, Mehmood Ali 3, Zeeshan Javed 3, Zulfiqar Ali Shah 3, Muhammad Asif 3, Akram Masih 1, Muhammad Afzal 1, PAF, under Qazi Asif, showed its class but their best scorer Amir Khan and strikers Erfnan Ali and Saleh Khan failed to beat keeper Abdul Aziz. The league leaders might have scored more goals in the second session but substitute Khuda Bakhsh missed the chances in the 78th and 84th minute. WAPDAs Muhammad Afzal also forced 72nd minute opportunity but Khalid was alert in the PAF net.
