Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has met President Asif Ali Zardari here Monday and the two held detailed consultation on a spectrum of issues including national security situation, impact of US president Barack Obama visit to India on Pakistan, ongoing operation in various parts of the country with reference to war on terror, president visit to China and other important matters. According to Aiwan-e- Sadr sources they both reviewed the implications of US president Barack Obama tour to India for Pakistan and they decided that an unequivocal policy would be pursued with US for continuing attacks by US drones despite strong protest by Pakistan. Sources told President Asif Ali Zardari also took Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani into confidence on the talks to be held with Chinese leadership on defence and security matters in his upcoming visit to China. Consultation at length was held on the national security situation. According to the Online News Agency President Asif Ali Zardari was of the view Pakistan would not compromise on basic national strategic interests in ongoing war against terrorism and protection of national security and sovereignty would be ensured at every cost. Terrorism could not be eliminated through use of force only, he said and stressed that on the other hand its root cause would have to be addressed for eradication of this menace. The role of the armed forces in war against terrorism was before all of us, he held. All the defence requirements of armed forces would be met., he maintained. The two also exchanged views on the reconciliation process between Karzai government in Afghanistan and Taliban.
