ISLAMABAD - Punjab registered the biggest upset of the 1st All-Pakistan Law Enforcement Agencies Martyrs T20 Cricket Tournament 2017, when they stunned star-studded KP Police by 6 runs in the first semifinal played here at Bhutto Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

KP Police had the services of half a dozen first class players, including Gohar and M Irfan, who also played for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), while on the other hand, Punjab was relying on their jawans and officers, who were amateurs. KP won the toss and opted to field first. Punjab were off to whirlwind start, as they posted decent 147 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Opener Zaheer Ahmed provided them perfect start by hitting 31-ball 49 with the help of 5 fours and 3 massive sixes while Suleman Cheema contributed 48 and Abdullah 32 runs.

KP couldn’t reply strongly as they lost their opener Gohar Ali cheaply, which proved to be a turning point of the match. Irfan tried his best to control the damages, but it was too little too late, as he slammed 30 runs while KP were cleaned up for 141 in 19.5 overs. Ali Fahad ripped through KP top order claiming 4-13 while Qasim Nazeer took 3-25 and Hafiz Moqeez 2-36.

Test spinner Yasir Shah was the chief guest while SSP Motorways Shaharyar Sikandar, OGDCL Sports Board vice president Chaudhry Ajmal Sabir, Aamir Gondal, Sheikh Azhar along with others were also present on the occasion. Yasir Shah left soon after awarding man of the match prize to Ali Fahad. In the second semifinal played at Bhutto cricket ground, hosts Motorways Whites will take on mighty FWO at 12pm today (Wednesday), while the mega final will be played on Thursday at Diamond Ground at 11am.
