QUETTA - Unidentified armed assailants Friday night gunned down a Section Officer and wounded his son in the provincial capital. Police said Section Officer Muhammad Idress was sitting along with his son Muhammad Ayaz in a shop located in Teen Town on Kasi Road when two armed men riding a motorbike opened indiscriminate fire on them. Resultantly, they sustained serious wounds and Muhammad Idress succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to hospital. The assailants fled the scene after committing the crime. Muhammad Idress was section officer in Agriculture Department. Officials at the hospital said the deceased received bullets in his head that caused his dead. They stated the condition of injured son of the officer out of danger. Police and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the site after the incident and cordoned off the area. Muhammad Idress was a Punjabi speaking settler and it can be a case of target killing, a police official told The Nation. However, no group had claimed responsibility for the attack. Police handed over dead body to heirs after completing legal formalities.
