ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's favorite son Talha Talib raised green flag high in Samoa, as he won silver medal in the 56kg weightlifting category of the Commonwealth Youth Games 2015 on Monday.

Talha outclassed 11 weightlifters by lifting 102kg in snatch, and lifted 115kg in clean and jerk to win silver medal for the country. His total of 217 was good enough for him to reach the medal table. Indian lifter equaled in snatch with Talha but lifted 135kg in jerk to be on top and won gold medal. Pack to the capacity crowd highly lauded 16-year-old Talha for his brilliant performance.

Pakistan's M Usman will be seen in action today (Tuesday), as he is competing in 62kg weightlifting category. Asian Youth 2015 gold medallist Abdur Rehman has a great challenge from India, Cameron and Australia, but he is in high spirit and very optimistic about his chances in 77kg competition on September 10.

Sadia Gull and Israr both won their first round matches in squash and moved to the second round, while Rida Khalid lost her first match in ladies singles tennis. Muzammil will play his first match today (Tuesday) while both Pakistani boxers lost their first bouts. Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) president Mian M Aslam has also congratulated Talha for getting a silver medal in the Games.
