ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday directed the Ministry of Health to conduct an inquiry into the death of PML-N MNA Faiz Muhammad Khan who died at Pakistan Institute of Medial Sciences (PIMS) due to alleged negligence of the doctors. Earlier on the direction of Executive Director PIMS Dr Altaf Hussain, a four-member committee headed by the Inspector General Hospitals Dr Saboor was constituted on Monday to probe into the issue. While talking to TheNation, Dr Altaf said that patient was supposed to be taken to the ICU but doctors on duty shifted him to a private ward, which proved fatal and the patient died. Hailing from Abbottabad, MNA Faiz Muhammad Khan was brought to PIMS emergency ward around o5:00 p.m. in critical situation. According to hospital sources, he was suffering from high temperature and died at 07:00 p.m. despite being provided every possible medical treatment. The MNA had already been treated at Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, for the last four days. Doctors on duty including Dr Farrukh Kamal, Medical and Legal Officer, and Deputy Director, evening shift, Dr Azeem and a staff nurse were suspended immediately upon the complaint of the deceaseds relatives that he was not provided immediate medical care. Whereas it is also being suspected that the MNA was a swine flu patient. As apparently there were no symptoms of bacterial infection, it was possible that he had some kind of viral infection. The committee would finalise the report within 72 hours and would present it to the Secretary Health.
