LAHORE Veteran batsman Mohammad Yousuf has been retained as captain of the Pakistan team for the forthcoming Australia series. The Pakistan Cricket Board, Tuesday, appointed Yousuf as the Test and ODI captain for the upcoming Australia tour, while former captain Younus Khan has been dropped from the team. Kamran Akmal and Shahid Afridi will be the vice-captains for Tests and ODIs respectively. Afridi, however, will continue to lead Pakistan in the T20 format. Younus, after his return, was meant to play domestic cricket but the former skipper missed the 7th, 8th and 9th round of the domestic league (rounds 10 and 11 still remaining). Due to this reason and his unavailability Younus has been dropped from the Pakistan team. Younus wanted to rest but he didnt play in the domestic cricket since the one-day series against New Zealand, chief selector Iqbal Qasim said. He didnt assured his availability to us and therefore we did not select him. He (Younus) can stage comeback by performing in the domestic cricket and his career is not over yet, he added. It wont be appropriate to declared Younus dropped from the team because he was already out of the team even for the New Zealand series. He was advised to play in the domestic cricket but he stayed away from the prestigious home tournament thats why he was not considered for selection, he added. He has to regain his form at home tournaments to be considered for selection for the national team, he added. He also put question mark on the performance of Shoaib Malik but said they did not see any suitable replacement as yet and he would be retained in the team on grounds of experience. On Khurrum Manzoor, the chief selector said that he failed in just one match and his performance cannot be judged on the basis of that. However, he stayed mum on Shoaib Akhtar and said he would wait till the boards decision on his remaining contract period. Pakistan are scheduled to play three Tests, five one-day internationals and one Twenty20 game in the December 19 to February 5 tour. Qasim said the team for ODI series against Australia will be named after the second Test ends at Sydney on January 7. Test squad: Mohammad Yousuf (Captain), Salman Butt, Khurram Manzoor, Imran Farhat, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Fawad Alam, Faisal Iqbal, Kamran Akmal, Danish Kaneria, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Gul, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Aamir, Abdul Rauf, Umar Akmal. Razaullah shocked over ICC awards selection criteria Razaullah Khan, the senior most former council member of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in a press statement issued here Tuesday, expressed his dismay and shock over the recent announcement of the ICC awards upon the recommendation of the PCB. He regretted that the majority of the persons included in the list didnt deserve to be recognised in the presence of numerous heavyweights having made much more significant contribution for the promotion of cricket for decades. I am particularly disappointed with the omission of the personalities belonging to the province of Sindh like Pir Syed Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani, Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Arif Ali Khan Abbasi, Hussain Lawai, Munawar Ali Abbasi, Munir Hussain, Zafar Iqbal Bilal, Abdul Dyer, Irfan Mirza, Yar Muhammad Solangi, Muhammad Aslam Sanjrani, Mir Rafique Talpur, Karamat Ali Abbasi and Abdul Qadir, Razaullah Khan remarked. He appealed to the PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt to have the list reviewed and recognise the above-mentioned personalities for their meritorious services to the development of cricket. If the list is not amended it will send wrong messages and could demoralise the hard working cricket organisers of Sindh, he concluded.
