MIRPUR (AJK) - A 12-day anti-measles campaign was launched on Monday here for vaccination of children between 6 months to 10 years against the disease.

On the occasion, Mirpur Commissioner Raja Amjad Pervez advised the parents to get their kids vaccinated during the drive. He was speaking as chief guest after inaugurating the anti-measles campaign in Mirpur  district at the District Health Office.

Highlighting the schedule of the campaign, District Health Officer M Bashir disclosed that about 155,000 children would be inoculated against the disease in the district during the drive. He continued that 105 teams comprising five members each have been formed under the supervision of 25 area supervisors. The DHO said that at tehsil level, the campaign would be supervised by a supervisor under the guidance of four district monitors. The campaign would be monitored by a representative/monitor of the government, he said.

Addressing the seminar, Divisional Commissioner Amjad Pervez said that the anti-measles campaign would help raise public awareness of the precautionary measures to avert the viral disease. Meanwhile, Dr Sardar Shabir Ahmed Khan, a programme manager, said that for the 365 fixed centres, 962 outreach teams had been constituted to work from 8am to 4pm daily during the drive. All the arrangements had been made to make the campaign a success, he said.

The daily progress in the district with regard to the drive will be mailed to provisional office at Muzaffarabad, he said. For each district,  a central control room has been  established and it has been linked with provincial-level control room.
