PESHAWAR - Two policemen were gunned down by unknown armed persons in the mountainous area of Pir Baba on Monday. Assistant Sub Inspector Pir Baba Police Station Ali Bahadar told The Nation that both policemen were deputed on the top of Ilum Mountain for security purpose but they were called in for performing duty during the three-day anti-polio drive. He said that they had started their journey from the top of Illum Mountain at 4:00pm on Sunday and were near to Pirbaba when they came under attack in the darkness. The dead bodies of both cops were found from the roadside of Narbatawal village. They were identified as Constable Usman Ali, resident of Malak Poor and Constable Din Mohammad, resident of Totali. Unknown armed persons also took away weapons from them.  Meanwhile, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehtab Ahamd Khan Abbasi and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak strongly condemned the killing of two police copes and asked the concerned SP to probe the incident.

They said the perpetrators would not be escaped from the clutches of law.

ANP provincial President Ameer Haider Khan Hoti and MPA Sardar Hussain Babak also strongly condemned the coward incident and criticized the PTI government for failure to arrest the culprits. They said that the targeted killing of the polio security teams and police was a matter of serious concern.
