LAHORE - Provincial Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din and Minister for Minority Affairs Khalil Tahir Sindhu have said that the bill of violence against women would soon be presented in the Punjab Assembly.

Addressing provincial conference on violence against women and eradication of child marriage organized by Aurat Foundation at a local hotel on Monday, they said that the government was doing legislation for protection of women rights. Justice (r) Nasira Javed Iqbal, Dr Masood-ur-Rehman, Mehnaz Rafi, Shahida Naseem, Mumtaz Mughal and others addressed the function and highlighted the importance of role of government and the society in eradicating violence against women.  The ministers said that various organisations in Punjab were working for women rights. They said that the social and mental attitudes of the society could not be changed without promotion of education. They said that government has introduced protection of women rights bill 2012 and Women Package 2014.  They said that the minimum age limit for marriage would be fixed as 18 years. They said that amendment was also being made in the law of harassing women at workplace. They said that the recommendations were also being formulated for ensuring representation of women in local governments.
