Punjab Minister for Minorities Affairs Tahir Kalil Sindhu said that Rs10 million will be spent on renovation of eight existing and construction of two news Churches in Tehsil Wazirabad.

Addressing a rally held under the auspices of Pakistan Masihi Ittehad on Daska Road here, the minister said that the government was striving hard to promote interfaith harmony and tolerance in society.

Minister Sindhu pointed out that there are Churches in the tehsil which required renovation while the Christian Community had demanded two new Churches in Ahmad Nagar and Saroki area. He announced a grant of Rs10 million for renovation of existing Churches and construction of two new Churches in the tehsil.

The minister said that priority of works would be fixed with consultation of notables of community. “Government is promoting interfaith harmony and cohesion amongst people of all faiths which is prerequisite for the stability of Pakistan,” he pointed out, adding that tolerance and patience must be part of our culture so that new generation may get some lesson in initial stage of their life.

He emphasised that the Christian community was not only patriotic but also always remained on frontline during any hard moment. “I always raised voice for the rights of minorities and Christian brothers as well and now struggling for provision of basic facilities to them from the platform of the PML-N”, he declared.

Later he met a delegation of Christian community and heard their problems.
