A wedding ceremony turned into mourning place as three relatives of the bridegroom lost their lives while three others sustained injuries when their car dashed against the pillar of a canal bridge here on Monday.

Barat of Zeshan, a resident of Christian Colony, went to Faisalabad. On its way, the accident took place at Sumandri. The three deceased including a child and a woman died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Mubashir, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, his nephew Sami and aunt Nusrat. The injured were rushed to Allied Hospital Faisalabad.

A dozen cops face the music: District police punished various police officers including an SHO, inspectors and sub-inspectors over their poor performance.

It punished SHO Najaf Abbas over his failure to follow the departmental rules and regulations. The police also punished Inspector Muhammad Afazal, Sub Inspector Maqsood Ahmed , Inspectors Zahid Mahmood, Abbas Haider, Attaullah, Sub-Inspectors Afzal Sindhu, Zulafqar Khan and inspector Riaza Luthar on different allegations. The police fined constables Zeshan Ali, Usman Ashraf, Javaid Akhtar and Shaid Javaid for being absent from duty.

ROBBERS HELD. Two members of a robbers’ gang were arrested with weapons and loot. The gang was involved in snatching money and bikes at gunpoint. Police raided an area and arrested Tariq and Allah Ditta red handed when they were doing their activities. The police also recovered Rs7,500, two motorcycles and four mobiles from them.

The Khanewal DPO said that the district police had arrested 597 outlaws,  41 drug peddlers and 31 gamblers last month and recovered 8kg of Marijuana, 837 liters of wine, 3 Kalashnikovs, 5 riffles, 34 pistols, 3 revolvers and hundreds of bullets.
