“The launch of Land Records Management and Information System on March 5 can rightfully be termed

as a milestone in Pakistan’s history.”

–Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif – 2016.

The patwari system was created by the British over 150 years ago, as a means to record land ownership to measure the amount of revenue generated for the crown. The subcontinent is still mostly influenced by the same system. The local patwar was responsible for keeping records and was the only real connection between the farmers and the colonists. Because of this, he held immense power, and as such, corruption became commonplace. The Land Records Management and Information System (LRMIS) is the first of its kind in the country, and makes the patwari redundant.
