CHIEF Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said people of the country have great expectations from judges and lawyers community and every possible step would be taken to ensure justice to each individual. Addressing Hyderabad Bar on Friday, CJ Iftikhar said the lawyers fraternity had waged a great and result-oriented movement for an independent judicial system. He said lawyers who sacrificed their lives could not be forgotten. Media, civil society and people from all walks of life contributed a lot for independence of the judiciary, he said, adding that the people, including lawyers community, wanted rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution in the country. The CJP said the nation now had eyes on lawyers and judges for their rights and justice. He stated that 2009 was a year of 'Justice for All. He further said that no doubt, every one of us had enjoyed whatever was available for the last 60 years. Now it is time to pay back and it will be a great contribution, he said. Now you (people) have to show a complete determination to ensure provision of justice to every individual. No excuses would be accepted in the way of providing justice, he added. He said lawyers should be proud of their profession as it was a noble profession Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the father of the nation, and great poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He further said, We have to adopt a policy of honesty which is, of course, the best policy as well.
