ISLAMABAD (APP) - World Red Crescent and Red Cross Day has been celebrated Friday to mark humanitarian action in cooperation with governments, donors and other aid organisations to assist vulnerable people around the world. The Red Crescent Day recalled the humanitarian support the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) successfully contributed to the government in serving people of Pakistan selflessly and devotedly. The Red Crescent movement and the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has done a great deal to strengthen the humanitarian and social values and promote a culture of tolerance, non-violence, sympathy, love and respect for others in the society irrespective of caste, creed, gender and political persuasion. It is worthwhile mentioning that never before was the need for pursuing these ideals as great as it is today. The radicalism and fanaticism unleashed by the militants has driven out a large number of people from Swat, Bajaur and other areas from their homes. Women and children have been forced to abandon their educational institutions. The sick and the women have suffered most grievously. It is our responsibility to mitigate the miseries of the victims and to help them return their homes peacefully and respectfully. The theme of days celebration signifies the need for collective efforts both at the individual and community levels to get our country out of the crisis. The Pakistan Red Crescent Society has already performed well by providing humanitarian services to the most vulnerable sections of society in critical times of natural disasters like earthquakes and floods.
