LAHORE - Deputy speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Mashud Ahmed paid a surprise visit at the Baba Cricket Ground in Islampura and got it vacated from illegal car parking occupants. He also got detained four persons for supervising the illegal parking stand and also confiscated token slips of the stand. He took the visit on the complaints of the people of the area, who had been demanding of the government to get the ground vacated, which is the only facility for sports for over 400,000 population of Islampura, Sanatnagar, Sanda, Lower Mall, Gulshan Ravi and Anarkali while the cricketers of Beadon Road, Gawalmandi, Qila Gujjar Singh, Nisbat Road, Royal Park and Mozang have also turned to this ground after the parks behind the Punjab Assembly were taken for the expansion of the assembly. Mashud, along with his entourage, reached the ground on a surprise visit and was enraged to see the vehicles parked inside the ground while some people were deployed there for token to the parked cars. According to details, the deputy speaker immediately called the DCO, ACO, SHO, State Officers of the Punjab Assembly and Peoples House to get to the base of the occupation and found as the people of the area identified that PA State Officer Naveed Aslam is behind the occupation. Mashud said that the Punjab Assembly took the ground for two months because construction work was going on at the secretariat and only green number plate vehicles were to be allowed to park in the ground during that period. But certain elements from the establishment got the ground under their control even occupied the pavilion and started running parking stand when nearly 19 kanal of land of District Council was lying vacant right in front of the ground and only Sunday Bazar is held there, which can easily be used for the purpose. However, Rana Mashud not only got the ground vacated from the parked cars but also got the pavilion freed from the people occupying it. During his inspection of the ground he also found empty bottles of liquor in the pavilion and directed to bring down the walls build at the back of the pavilion, which were constructed there to give cover to the people using the facility for their wrong purposes. The pavilion was constructed in the ground on the directive of Mian Nawaz Sharif at the cost of Rs 4 million some years back, to facilitate the cricketers of 11 clubs, who regularly practice there but it was now being misused. Mashud directed to get the ground in proper shape and open the gymnasium for the locals of the area and also directed the staff officers to come up with the record of marriages being held in the ground despite the directives of the government that the sports facilities should not be used for such purposes. The people of the area felt relieved after the action of the deputy speaker and also raised slogans in his favour.
