LAHORE (PR): The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) is organizing a symposium on “Renal and Transplant Medicine: a bright future but with many challenges” on Thursday, October 10, 2013. Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH & RC) will telecast this event live. There will be no fee for attendance at the SKMCH venue but pre-registration is required, especially for outside participants. During this live telecast there will be an opportunity to ask questions from the speakers in Edinburgh in real time.

The identification of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), a growing world-wide clinical problem, is critical with an increasing impact in primary care. Progression of kidney disease is associated with many complications leading to increased morbidity and mortality in patients.

Most patients with kidney disease die of cardiovascular causes. The management of CKD and its complications is rapidly evolving. The symposium will examine diagnostic challenges in renal medicine and the emerging therapies that may reduce mortality and morbidity; and finally renal transplantation which provides for improved quantity and quality of life.
