KARACHI – A child and a woman among three people were killed when the roof of a dilapidated apartment caved in at Kharadar area here on Tuesday.

According to details, the ceiling of six-floor building collapsed suddenly in the wee hours of Tuesday. As result, whole family came under the debris.

Following the incident, residents of area and rescuers shifted the victims to Civil Hospital where three of a family succumbed to their injuries.

It is worth mentioning here that the building had already been declared dilapidated by the Sindh Building Control Authority.

Police said that Ayaz, 40, his two-year-old son Akhtar and 35-year-old wife Nadia died when they were sleeping.

Police said that residents of area rushed to the spot and started rescue operation and managed to recover the victim family stuck into the debris. They transported them to Civil Hospital.

It is pertinent to mention here that SBCA have declared at least 132 buildings dilapidated located mostly in the Old City area. There were a number of incidents have been taken place in the city but authorities have failed to chalk out a strategy to avert such incidents.
