KARACHI - A senior inspector of Karachi police became victim of target killing on Tuesday night while a cop was injured in an armed attack on his car by unidentified assailants in Saddar area.

Police said that unidentified armed riders resorted to indiscriminate fire on the car of victim Inspector Agha Asad in Bohri Bazaar, Saddar within the jurisdiction of Preedy police station.

As a result, Agha sustained bullet injury in his head. Police rushed to the spot and shifted him to Civil Hospital where he succumbed to injuries. Police said that the victim along with his Constable namely Nazaqat were on routine patrolling when some unidentified culprits targeted him. Police said that inspector Agha Asad was deputed as Station House Officer at Preedy police station from last couple of months.

Police initially suspected that the assassination of the inspector was reaction of the ongoing crackdown against the criminals in the City. The victim inspector was hailed from Shikarpur. Further investigation was underway.

It is pertinent to mention here that 44 police officers were embraced martyrdom, including a DSP, two inspector, four sub-inspectors, five assistant sub-inspectors, five head constables and 27 constables during the ongoing year.
