ISLAMABAD - Senate Standing committee on National Regulation and Services (NR&S) directed Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) to finalise pricing policy at earliest to ensure provision of quality medicines at reasonable rates.

Chairing the committee meeting here on Wednesday, Senator Syed Zafar Ali Shah said they are representatives of masses and every step should be taken to give them relief.

Caretaker Minister for National Regulation and Services (NR&S) Shahzada Jamal Nazir assured the committee that no corruption will be held in his tenure and soon pricing policy 2013 would be prepared in the best interest of general public.

He also informed the committee that he would contact establishment division and Ministry of Finance for appointment of Chief Executive Officer of DRAP at the earliest.

Secretary NR&S, Imtiaz Inayat Elahi apprised the committee that a meeting of pricing board has been called on Wednesday (April 10) in which all stakeholders will participate and give their recommendations for finalizing pricing policy.

Aman Ullah, a representative of ministry of National Regulation and Services gave a brief presentation on the mechanism being adopted by the DRAP for providing quality medicines to people at affordable rates.

Senator Haseeb Khan, Senator Karim Ahmed Khawaja, Senator Farah Aqil, Senator Farhat Abbas, Senator Almas Parveen, officials of Ministry of National Regulation and Services and Media persons attended the meeting.
