MIRPUR (AJK)-The AJK High Court on Tuesday granted interim relief to Masood Khan to contest the schedule August 16, election to the office of President of Azad Jammu & Kashmir State.

The court suspended the earlier orders of the Rawalakot Registration Officer and the AJK Chief Election Commissioner, refusing to enter name of Masood Khan in the electoral roll, despite his being the resident of Rawalakot tehsil of Poonch district.

The three-member bench comprising Justice M Aftab Alvi, Justice Azher Salim Baber and Justice Sadaqat Raja announced the verdict in Muzaffarabad Tuesday afternoon on a writ petition filed by the AJK Presidential candidate Masood Khan, challenging the AJK CEC orders whereby it denied entering name of Mr Khan in the electoral roll prepared for Constituency LA-XIX Poonch - III on provisional basis.

Masood Khan, a retired bureaucrat from Foreign Service of Pakistan, is the PML-N candidate in the scheduled Aug 16, 2016 election for the President of AJK.

“Impugned decisions of Registration Officer and CEC dated Aug 6, and 8, 2016 respectively, are suspended till decision of the instant case”, the court ordered in its judgment on Tuesday. “This order is however, subject to objections from other side”, the court declared.

The court also ordered that the petitioner Masood Khan would, therefore, be entitled to participate in the process of election for the President of AJK scheduled for August 16.

In his writ petition, Masood Khan had requested the AJK High Court to direct the Registration Officer Poonch district to include his name in the electoral roll prepared for village Kharik, Patwar Circle Pothi, Makwalan Constituency LA-XIX Poonch-III.

He said that he is a state subject of the AJK and is a permanent resident of village Kharik, Tehsil Rawalakot. The petitioner holds valid CNIC No 611010-832925-5 with permanent address of Rawalakot.
