Rawalpindi-Two weeks long Independence Day celebrations continued at Rawalpindi Arts Council enthusiastically.

In this connection a portrait competition entitled ‘Heroes of Pakistan’ among students was organised by RAC here yesterday to involve the youth in Independence Day celebrations. The students made the portraits of heroes of Pakistan Movement like Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Dr Allam Iqbal, Nawab Saleem Ullah Khan, Sher-e-Bangal Fazal-e-Haq, Fatima Jinnah, Hafeez Jalandari, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and many others which were put on display at RAC art gallery.

MPA Lubna Rehan Pirzada accompanied by Naheed Manzoor and RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed inaugurated the one day portrait exhibition. In competition Waqas Ahmed bagged the first position by making portrait of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Faraz Haider secured the second position by making portrait of Fazal-e-Haq, Neman Khalid got the third position by making portrait of Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, while Inshra Tariq remained fourth by making portrait of Hafeez Jalandari.

Addressing at the prize distribution ceremony, Lubna Rehan Pirzada said that Pakistan is the result of sacrifices of our ancestors. She said RAC conducted this competition to get the youth recognised with Pakistan Movement which is appreciable step.

Naheed Manzoor said that Pakistan is among the blessings of God but nowadays it is facing some challenges but unity is best source to overcome these challenges.

Resident Director RAC Waqar Ahmed said RAC would celebrate Independence Day till 14th August with national zeal and stage play. On the occasion several stage plays would also be arranged.

Meanwhile, Fatima Jinnah Women University yesterday organised divisional level events as host to celebrate Independence Day.  All the activities were organised with an ideal objective to engage youth in extracurricular activities with regard to 14th August (Independence Day) and exhibiting the student’s creative capabilities.

The FJWU invited University of Engineering and Technology Taxila, PAMS_ Arid Agricultural University, & Rawalpindi Medical College to participate in the event. Different competitions included speech competition, quiz competition, painting & drawing competition, mushaira competition and mili nagma competition were conducted. A large number of students from different universities and FJWU took keen interest in this event to celebrate of Independence Day.

Dr Samina Amin Qadir, Vice Chancellor of FJWU graced the event as the chief guest. She said, “In order to remember our history and acknowledge the efforts done by our great leaders, it is of utmost importance that such historical days must be celebrated for our young generation.” Such competitions provide a staging to students where they could demonstrate their skills and the participants exhibited enormous capacity and potential through their work, she added. She further said that active participation and involvement of students in different extracurricular activities is an instant need of the day and essential for inculcating in them the sense of responsibility, discipline, obedience, punctuality to connect them with our great history.

Later, Dr Samina Qadir distributed the prizes and certificates among all the winners who secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in different competitions.
