Multan-Mourning the Quetta tragedy, the black coats observed complete strike across the South Punjab region on Tuesday. The lawyers offered ghaibana namaz-e-janaza (funeral in absentia) of the victims of the blast besides staging rallies and demonstrations. The strike call was given by the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) to exhibit unity and express solidarity with the families of the martyrs.

The court work got completely suspended due to the strike and the hearing of almost all cases was adjourned. No lawyer appeared before any court of law and the courts presented a deserted look in Multan.

President of High Court Association Multan Jamshed Hayat Sheikh said that deplorable situation in Balochistan has developed a state of uncertainty and insecurity among the legal fraternity. He said that federal and provincial governments failed in maintaining law and order in Balochistan. The LHCBA Multan has demanded immediate arrest of those responsible for the heinous attack and that they be brought to justice as soon as possible.

The other lawyer leaders demanded the government to adopt immediate steps to protect the life and liberty of all citizens, particularly lawyers. They urged the federal and the provincial governments to provide compensation to the families of the deceased; Rs7 million for each lawyer who was killed and Rs3.5m for each injured.

Meanwhile, the Multan Union of Journalists (MUJ) strongly condemned the bomb blast at civil hospital Quetta where two electronic mediamen Shehzad, working as an Aaj TV cameraman and Mehmood Khan serving for Dawn News embraced martyrdom along with many others. Former Assistant Secretary General of PFUJ Abdul Sattar Qamar, former president MUJ Syed Nadeem Shah, Sitting President MUJ Abdul Rauf Maan, Nasir Abbas Zaidi, Gauhar Javed said that cowardly act of terrorists cannot stop the journalists and pressmen from their sacred mission. They said that Government should announce compensation of Rs5 million each and a home for their families of the deceased journalist.
