ISLAMABAD (Online) - The Implementation Committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has been told that eight parliamentarians including Federal Minister Syed Khurshid Shah are defaulters of 182,000 riyals to the ministry of religious affairs. The committee met here on Wednesday under the chair of Yasin Rehman to review audit observations of the ministry of religious affairs for the years of 2001-02, 2004 and 2005. Audit authorities told that Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Shah had been found defaulter of 155,000 riyals, Maulana Attaur Rehman of 6,600 riyals, Bashir Virk of 3,200 riyals and Rana Nazir of 6,600 riyals during the Haj in the years of 1995-96. The defaulters told they had returned the amount to the private secretary of the then minister for religious affairs who had passed away but the record of payments had not been found. The committee directed the concerned officials of the ministry to again send the letters to these persons asking them to provide the record of the payment to the audit authorities. The body was told that a Saudi prince owned some buildings which he wanted to rent out to the Pakistani pilgrims at 3,300 riyals per building. But the Ministry wanted to hire the same on less rent than demanded by the prince that prompted him to send a letter to the chief justice of Pakistan, the body was informed.
