LAHORE A Full Bench of the Supreme Court Wednesday allowed the benefit of revised pay scale to as many as 273 officers of the State Life Insurance Corporation. The Bench warned the respondent company of strict action if needful was not done in line with the mode already laid down by the Federal Service Tribunal in 2004. The Bench comprising Justice Jawwad S Khwaja and Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was headed by Justice MA Shahid Siddiqui. The Bench disposed of the appeals moved by Muhammad Islam and others, after legal adviser to the Corporation, undertook to comply with the Tribunal orders with respect to revising their salaries on the basis of pay-scale of 1998. The Bench took a very serious notice that the petitioners had been running from pillar to post over the last seven years but the Corporation did not bother to act upon the Tribunal decision which had no ambiguity. The court also noted the department is reluctant in implementing the Tribunals order on one or the other reason which caused severe mental pain to the appellants. How could the Corporation go other way when the tribunal has clearly prescribed a mode to calculate revised salaries of the employees, said Justice Saqib Nisar after Justice Jawwad could not get a satisfactory answer from the respondent counsel as to why every time the Corporation called the Board meeting to discuss the issue but never decided it. Justice Nisar said the departments must mend their ways and act according to law. It is not a small matter that scores of employees have been suffering to get justice and the respondent corporation is unmoved. Responsibility for this procrastination must be fixed and the responsible must be called to pay for the loss so that he gets a lesson, he warned.
