LAHORE The youth and uneducated persons are on the mercy of police personnel of Muhafiz Squad in connection with a unique nature of crime purely created by the police in order to mint money, TheNation has learnt. According to the modus operandi, police officers currently are discharging their duties in Muhafiz Squad in collaboration with wondering prostitutes and gays in various parts of the City hunt youngsters and ignorant people, majority of them are labourers, by influencing them to commit immoral crimes. The crime of aforesaid kind, also an old phenomenon, has been increased alarmingly in different nook and corners of six police divisions of the Punjab Capital these days. According to a survey conducted by this scribe, almost all the surrounding areas of the gardens including Racecourse and Jinnah Garden, Anarkali Chowk near National College of Arts, Regal Chowk, Railway Station, Shimla Hill surrounding areas, Samanabad Roundabout, under Garhi Shahu flyover, Liberty Market, Liberty Roundabout, fronts of the Jinnah and General Hospitals, Shadman Chowk, Canal area near Kinnaired College for Women, three major streets of Johar Town, Shahi Fort, Shah Alam Market and etc are the prominent places where such type of crime is on full swing. According to the accounts of various victims, some of them conditioning anonymity, more than 70 per cent personnel of Muhafiz Squad are allegedly involved in patronising prostitutes and gays. Muhafiz Squads comprising of special patrolling teams remain on duty round the clock. Each police station has two to four motorbikes with four to eight police officers tagged with personnel of Muhafiz Squad are dispatched in three shifts a day to patrol in the precincts of police concerned, police sources said. Admitting their partial involvement, the victims of this kind of crime said they were influenced by prostitutes and gays, who provoke their emotions for immoral activities besides urging them to act according to their will. After having an 'eye-to-eye settlement with such a female when we tried to reach at any safe place, two constables Latif Khan and Amir Nafees having batches of Muhafiz Squad intercepted us and asked to produce our identity, an 18-year-old Usama shared his tale outside the Jinnah Hospital here the other day. According to him, the female (pros) left the site giving a smile to police officers, who later allegedly threatened Usama of dire consequences besides lodging a case against him. The youth was released after he gave Rs 1,000 as bribe to police officers. Similarly, a 17-year-old Naveed Shah, a student of 12th year, was victimised by the personnel of Muhafiz Squad near a stone throwing distance from Old Anarkali Police Station on Saturday last. A woman probably of 25-year-old signalled me for lift but when she sit in my car, she started to ignite my feelings, Naveed said. He added that he was double minded when the woman sitting in his car made a phone call to unidentified persons and seconds after when he reached near General Post Office (GPO) Chowk about four police officers namely Akram, Nawaz, Sikandar and Sher Alam signalled him to stop. He was thoroughly interrogated by the officers and released after 'paying Rs 1,600, while the woman, claimed her name Shaheena, had already left the place. The newly appointed Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Addl IG Ahmed Raza Tahir and DIG (Operations) Rao Sardar Ali Khan did not respond despite repeated attempts in order to seek their versions.
