LAHORE The industrial and CNG sectors of the Punjab province are unlikely to get any relief in terms of increase in gas supply in the summer season, TheNation has learnt. Newly-appointed SNGPL Managing Director Arif Hameed said that there was no possibility for smooth gas supply to industry sector yet. We have resumed supply to the fertiliser sector and currently, this sector iss our priority, Hameed said and added that Pak Arab, Pak American and Engro Fertilisers were being provided about 150MMCFD. Owing to sowing, the MD added, the supply to fertilisers had been resumed to provide cheap fertilisers for farmers. To a question, he said that the power sector had been provided gas according to the contract, dispelling the impression that the SNGPL was not providing gas to the power sector according to the agreement. The official said that gas supply to IPPs would be curtailed after June. Because of the curtailment, he added, about 100MMCFD would be saved, though this small quantity would not be enough to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to the sectors. Both the sectors are currently observing four and two days gas holidays in a week respectively as the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited is still facing over 300 million cubic feet per day gas shortfall. Owing to the sowing season, however, the company has resumed uninterrupted gas supply to the fertiliser sector.
