HAFIZABAD - More than 600 lady health workers and their 27 supervisors took out a rally to protest against non-payment of their four-month salaries, threatening boycott of polio drive here on Sunday. The workers and their supervisors thronged the old Civil Hospital premises and raised slogans against the government. They said that they had depriving their children of milk and daily meals. They said that before Eidul Fitr, local health authorities assured them that they would be paid before the Eid but they failed to honour their commitment. Later, the participants holding their minor children in their laps marched through local bazaars closed the railway gates located in the middle of the city and blocked the traffic for 2 hours. However, on the intervention of the local police the protesters started marching towards district complex and covered more than 5 kilometer distance. At the complex, they staged a sit-in. They threatened if they were not paid before Eidul Azha, they would boycott the next anti-polio campaign. However, Riaz Tarar, the chairman of the District Health Committee, and Mukhtar Ahmad Mukhi, the chairman of the District Development Committee, assured them of arrangements for their salaries.
