Before the Taliban insurgency, district Buner was the second most prosperous district of Malakand division due to its flourishing marble and mining industry but now the government has imposed a strict ban on these industries. That, of course, has caused widespread unemployment here. These days people here are mostly engaged in a daylong search for free food and relief package, moving like beggars from one relief centre to the other in hordes of thousands. We want government to start constructing all the roads, bridges and houses that were destroyed during the military operation now and we need this to begin posthaste. We need these entire not just to serve our community needs but to give us some bit of employment and some hope. -S. ALI BUNERI, via e-mail, August 30.
