LAHORE - Punjab Party Decorators and Caterers Association (PPDCA) has staged a protest demonstration in front of the Press Club on Monday against the Punjab govts proposed move to close down marriage halls at sharp 10 pm with a view to save electricity. Hundred of protestors thronged the Press Club and raised slogan against the proposed decision. They were holding placards and banners demanding of government to avoid making irrational decision that would defiantly lead them towards economic death. PPDCA Punjab president Ahsan-ul-Haq called recommendations to shut down marriage halls at 10 pm as illogical and unacceptable. He said it would be tantamount to inflict irreparable damages to the businesses of decorators and caterers. He said that more than 2,500 shops belonged to this business. Lot of people are associated with these businesses and if the proposed move is implemented, a number of people will be unemployed, he added. He said governments point of view behind the recommendation to close down marriage halls in a bid to save the power was incomprehensible. He was of the view that big shopping plazas and markets, which remained opened till mid night had been making unnecessary use of electricity. He said the government should get these markets closed down at 7 to 8 pm to save the energy instead of putting futile restriction on marriage halls. Marriage Hall Association Lahore president Muhammad Illiyas condemned the proposed decision. He demanded of the government to review the move to make it compatible as per situation. He said the government should get the marriage halls closed at 12 pm instead of 10 pm. He said, we are not in favour of late night marriage functions and that is why we have imposed penalties for more hours to be consumed by the people. He said, If we are not heard, we will raise our voice at different platforms and launch protest demonstration, strikes and hunger strikes to press our due demands.
