The roof of the Municipal Library Sukkur was badly damaged due to monsoon rains sometime ago. Some readers were also slightly injured when the roof suddenly fell on them one day during the rainy season. So representatives of the concerned authorities visited the library and also announced allocation of funds for repairs but nothing really happened. This library, by the way, falls within the administrative jurisdiction of DCO Sukkur and Municipal Corporation Sukkur. The DCO and his charges, though, are silent about the whole issue. Besides the damaged roof, the library has other serious problems. There is no Ladies Room in the library where they could sit to consult books, a problem that is especially galling during the exams. There is also an acute shortage of books that could help students in connection with the CSS exams, a rage among aspirants of high position in government among the poorer students of Sukkur. Being poor, they are loathes buying books and are wholly reliant on the library. I request DCO Sukkur as well as all those who have successfully prepared for their CSS exams here in this library to contribute a bit for this institution. -RASHEED AHMED MIRANI, Sukkur, via e-mail, August 5.
