ORAKZAI AGENCY - A key Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan commander and 12 other militants surrendered in Orakzai Agency on Monday.

According to sources, Razman Shah was also among who surrendered to security forces and is believed to be an important commander of the banned militant group’s Orakzai chapter.

These militants laid down arms a day after TTP Gul Zaman group commander had surrendered to the security forces.

Sources said the terrorists were linked to the TTP Aslam Farooqi Group of Orakzai agency. “A total of 13 militants affiliated with TTP’s Aslam Farooqi group surrendered to the forces. These militants were in the security forces’ wanted list on terror charges,” the sources added.

The sources said the militants surrendered because the security forces have taken complete control of the area, and there was nowhere to hide. With senior militant commanders either dead or escaping, “there is no choice – either lay down your weapons or choose the same fate,” the sources added.

The other ‘militants’ include Shadeed, Abidullah, Eidullah, Mir Khan, Ameen Ullah, Mohammad Ameen, Irfan, Hazrat Mohammad, Meela Khan, Spin Meer Khan, Mohammad Adeel and Din Ullah. The surrendered terrorists said they wanted to live peacefully after laying down arms.

Orakzai is one of Pakistan’s seven semi-autonomous tribal regions, which was once considered as stronghold of Pakistani Taliban and Al Qaeda-linked militants. It was a key abode of former TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud before he was killed in a US drone strike in North Waziristan in 2013.

But since the launch of Zarb-e-Azb operation in June 2014, the security forces have taken the control of the agency. The military intensified its operations against militants in the tribal belt in the aftermath of deadly Taliban attack on Army Public School in Peshawar that killed 150 people, mostly children in December 2014.
