Islamabad: Minorities Day was observed today to recognize the distinguished role played by the minorities, in nation building of the country.

The objective of marking the day is to acknowledge the contribution of the minorities in different walks of life, highlight their rights and promote inter-faith harmony. In his message, the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has reiterated his government's unflinching resolve to protect the rights of minorities living in Pakistan. PM lauded the distinguished role played by the minorities in all the nation building efforts. The Prime Minister expressed hope that the minorities would keep playing their respective role, in the national development.

The government designated August 11 as ‘Minorities Day’ in 2009 and it has been marked yearly since then.
