A pillar of under construction flyover for Metro Bus collapsed here at Chungi No-6 on Bosan Road Section on Monday but the all the workers and passers-by remained safe as no injury or life loss was reported from the site.

A large number of citizens gathered at the spot as the pillar collapsed with a big bang. However, the Chief Engineer of the project Sabir Khan Saddozai said that no pillar of the project collapsed, rather a bunch of iron rods being used for the construction of pillars leaned on its side when the boom of a crane accidently struck it.

“The process to tie iron rods with one another is done with the help of crane as this process cannot be performed with human hands due to the strength and weight of iron rods. The news regarding collapse of a pillar is just a rumour,” he claimed. He said that there was no pillar at the site as the process of concreting the pillar had not started as yet.

He said that the Metro project administration, construction companies and labour would fully celebrate independence day. He added that the entire metro route was decorated with national flags while special arrangements would be made to keep the metro route clean to facilitate the citizens celebrating the day. He said that the metro administration was aware of the schedule of school opening and a special plan was being evolved to facilitate the students coming to schools and colleges after summer vacations.
