KARACHI - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) tried to take PPP leader and former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain into its custody at Karachi’s Gulberg Police Station here on Thursday night.

According to a private TV channel, the PPP leader was in detention at Gulberg Police Station when the NAB team arrived. The police officials however refused to him Dr Asim over to the NAB saying they have to produce the former minister in the court on Friday.

Earlier the channel reported that Dr Asim was released under Section 497 after police concluded their investigation and could not find any solid evidence to frame charges of corruption, land grabbing, misuse of power and facilitating terrorists against him. The important development in the case comes days after an anti-terrorism court (ATC) extended Dr Asim’s remand for five more days after he expressed fears for his life and alleged that he was being tortured in custody.
