KARACHI - The police on Monday arrested 17 real estate agents and investors of the Bahria Town for staging a protest.

SHO Clifton Javed Abro confirmed the arrest of 17 while said that the three of their accomplices were managed flee. Police have registered an FIR No 353/18 against 20 estate agents and investors.

A group of real estate agents and investors had gathered at Tauheed Commercial to stage a protest and sought to carry out a rally from Tauheed Commerical to Star Gate when the police took action and apprehended them.  The protesters were demands that they have been invested millions of rupees in the Baldia Town and the financial crisis of the Bahria Town, affecting them.” Police officials said that they have registered a case while further investigation was underway.

Two days back on Saturday, hundreds of employees and contractors of the Bahria Town had also staged a protest on main Super Highway over non-payment of their salaries from the last six months, causing massive traffic jam on the both sides of the superhighway for at least eight hours.

The police later registered a case against 2500 unidentified persons for staging a protest and blocking the flow of traffic for hours.

On the other side, Police arrested four people for creating hurdles during anti-encroachment drive in New Sabzi Mandi on main Superhighway in Karachi.

The arrested people included Haji Shahista Khan, Haji Zahid Awan, Abdul Waheed and Burhanuddin. An FIR No. 530/18 was registered against them at Site Superhighway police station on behalf of state. According to police officials, a score of shopkeepers attempted to thwart the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in New Sabzi Mandi on Superhighway and also attempted to stage a protest and block the Superhighway, upon which, the police took action and arrested them. Police officials said that a case was registered against over 500 people including 22 nominated people; however, the police was looking for the arrest of remaining suspects nominated in the FIR. Further investigation was underway.
