Local commuters have expressed anger at the “highhandedness and indifference” of the intercity transporters, demanding the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) take action against them.

The locals are of the view that they have to suffer great inconvenience as transporters, running their buses on route to and from Faisalabad don’t operate from Kamalia city. “The passengers who want to reach Kamalia are lifted off at bypass road near Sarfraz Morr or Mauza Jamal Pahar,” they claimed, adding that several incidents have been reported at bypass road where many passengers have been robbed of their valuables and some have to even suffer injuries over putting up resistance. The commuters said that in day time, they have to hire expensive rickshaw to reach home, although the transporters charge them fares fixed for Kamalia city. The passengers including women and children, especially the elderly have to face great inconvenience. The local commuters protested against the “selfish attitude and fleecing” by the transporters and demanded stern action against them. They also demanded the RTA to ensure that the inter-city transport is operated from the city to facilitate the locals. When contacted, Kamalia Traffic DSP Rana Khalid Rashid said that the traffic police would monitor and investigate the matter and would make every possible effort to resolve the problem.
