LAHORE – The City received first significant pre-monsoon downpour on Tuesday afternoon, bringing the routine life to a standstill as the rainwater inundated on roads not only in low lying areas but also several posh localities. Lahore received 25 mm rain.

Rains, overcast conditions and continuously blowing winds caused considerable decrease in the mercury level, providing much needed respite to the Lahorites from the prevailing muggy weather. Clearing of sky after rains and abundance of sunshine, however, again turned the weather muggy that caused the Lahorites to sweat profusely.

The rains added to the woes and miseries of people as the rainwater inundated on several important roads. In several localities, roads and streets were presenting pictures of lakes and ponds. Even 25 mm rain smashed to the ground tall claims of WASA regarding its preparedness for the rainy season. It took hours to the premier sanitation agency to clear rainwater from several localities. Ongoing construction work on Ferozepur Road and several other important arteries worsened the situation for motorists and pedestrians. Massive traffic jams were witnessed on important arteries including Ferozepur Road, Multan Road, Jail Road and The Mall due to inundated rainwater on portions of roads and roadsides.

People come out of their houses in the evening to enjoy weather after the rainfall. Major parks and picnic spots attracted a large number of people including women and children in the evening. Huge rush was witnessed at Bagh-e-Jinnah, Jillani Park, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jallo Park, Lahore Zoo and other picnic spots in the City. Massive traffic jams were witnessed on roads in the close vicinity of these picnic spots.

On Tuesday, maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded 39 degree Celsius and 29 C respectively. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded 59 per cent which decreased to 55 per cent in the evening.
