MIRPUR (AJK) - To deal with any rain-induced emergency or flood during the current monsoon, flood emergency warning centres have been set up in all the ten districts of AJK, official sources said.

When contacted Mirpur Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rehman confirmed to this scribe here on Tuesday that district-level emergency flood warning centre had been established under the supervision of the District Disaster Management Authority - the DC - similar to at all other offices of the Deputy Commissioners in all the ten districts of AJK. With the required staff, these centres will function round-the-clock to cope with any emergency and avert colossal losses.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) works under the command of the AJK State Disaster Management Authority. The warning centres will function round the clock to monitor and assess impending floods threats besides getting alert to receive early warning from the higher authorities monitoring the flood situation in Pakistan - for immediate onward transmission to the population dwelling in the low-lying areas including those living close to the Mangla lake as well as the seasonal nullahs and the rivers passing through the district.

Meanwhile, AJK State Management Authority Director Zia Ahmed Khawaja said that the district-level emergency centres could be contacted through the official telephone Numbers at the DC offices throughout AJK as and when required for any assistance.

Similarly, the Mirpur tehsil level emergency cell could be approached through telephones at Assistant Commissioner office at all sub divisional headquarters where tehsil-level emergency centres could be contacted through telephone if needed round the clock, he declared.

People across AJK may contact the concerned emergency centres of their respective district to inquire about the forecast of the impending flood as well as in case of any emergent situation during the monsoon rains to deal with any untoward situation immediately.
