MULTAN - Former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani anticipated on Tuesday that the PPP would sweep next elections and another coalition government would take place in the country. Addressing a public gathering here at the residence of MPA Malik Ahmad Hassan Dehar, Gilani added that the voters gave him five year mandate but he was sent back after four years. He added that he did not become prime minister from backdoor rather the parliament of Pakistan unanimously elected him prime minister. “But the representative of masses is removed unconstitutionally,” he lamented.

He said that he needed 170 votes to become prime minister but he won office with just 124 votes in the hand and lasted for over four years. “We don’t believe in the politics of revenge.

We do the politics of reconciliation and forgive our enemies. We were subjected to tough criticism by the media but we tolerated it,” he added.

He said that he sacrificed his office for the sake of principles. “I took oath under constitution, made no compromise on principles and took no unconstitutional step. I am representative of 180 million people and I appeared before the court thrice. They could not remove me through any constitutional way,” he asserted.

He said that the PPP was the party of masses as its founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto sacrificed their lives for masses.

He added that the PPP was symbol of federation as it had strong influence in all five provinces while it also gained majority in the senate. He said that it was Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who introduced the idea of one vote one person. “This vision turned the masses into a true source of power,” he added.

Referring NA-151 by poll, he said that he could not solve a puzzle. “I have sacrificed my prime ministership for principles but I can’t understand what principles our opponents believe in. Even people don’t know what their (opponents’) party is and whom they should vote for,” he maintained. He suggested to the voters to ask the opponents as to what party they belonged and whom they should vote for. He said that he did not do politics for rule rather he did it for serving the masses. “And I believe that we can serve people in both positions whether we are in opposition or government,” he added.

He said that MPA Ahmad Hassan Dehar was his old friend and all of his correspondence with Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was done by Dehar from jail.

“He is annoyed with me because of you (masses). I’ve asked him that if he wants to run away, take me with him too.

Let me make it clear that he is with us and you are with us too,” he declared. He said that he had come to give a clear message to those who were creating misconceptions that all their tactics and negative designs would fail.
